The Influence of the European Union on Non-Member States of Europe
LINHART, Tomáš
The thesis entitled "The Influence of the European Union on Non-Member States of Europe" deals with the mutual relations of this institution with selected non-member states of Europe, more precisely the Republic of Serbia, the Kingdom of Norway and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The text defines the European Union's foreign policies and identifies its political-legal dynamics and interconnections with its preferred European states. The thesis aims to establish the economic-economic and environmental relations between the players. Another ambition of the thesis is to list the current bilateral relations, foreign, security and defence policies and to describe the mutual influence of the legislative framework in the respective areas. The thesis introduces the EU cooperation with non-member states, or rather describes the existing ties in many areas, and presents the circumstances of the rejection of the Kingdom of Norway's membership in this structure, the rationale of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland's withdrawal and abandonment from the multi-year membership, and on the contrary, the interests of the Republic of Serbia to become an equal member and partner of the European Union, following the example of other member states. In addition to the necessary historical insight into the integration development of the European Union, an essential part of the thesis is the justification of the continued or newly created non-membership of selected European states in the EU. However, there are numerous collaborations between the community and individual states, and it is these collaborations that the thesis text focuses on. The thesis assesses not only the relations and the reasons and benefits of being or not being a member of the European Union but is a comprehensive text for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, the Common Security and Defence Policy, Foreign Policy and the European Neighbourhood Policy.

From competition to cooperation: Foreign aid policy as a mirror of Sino-Japanese relations in the age of Chinese rise
Crespi, Daniele ; Kolmaš, Michal (advisor) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
In this thesis I explore the current trends of the Sino-Japanese bilateral relations as it appears through the lenses of the TPMC. The TPMC, short for Third-Party Market Cooperation, is a public-private-partnership initiative between China and other countries not part of the Belt and Road Initiative, and the cooperation with Japan aims at combining the relative advantages of the two economies in order to meet the infrastructure demand for a developing Southeast Asia. I argue that this partnership has the potential to lead to improvement to the bilateral relations between the two parties, according to the theory proposed by Press-Barnathan in 2006 and then elaborated further in 2009, consisting of three conditions regarding the domestic support for the peace process (in this case, the TPMC), the degree of economic disparity between the actors, and the presence of a third party that can facilitate the process; I than use elements of Critical Discourse Analysis to gauge the extent of this positive effect by examining how the construction of the partner has changed in the years after the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding concerning the partnership, by analysing how different discursive strategies in the creation of meaning are used, according to frameworks used by Lams (2017), and Hagström...

Nováková, Sabina ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Horák, Slavomír (referee)
The following thesis is a case study of the U.S. Manas air base in Kyrgyzstan. It addresses the significance of the base in the context of mutual U.S.-Kyrgyz relations after 2001. It aims to analyze the bilateral negotiations between the U.S. and the Kyrgyz on establishing the air base, its functioning, and eventually its closure in 2014. Among the research questions, it seeks to explain the respective positions of both parties, the motives behind their actions, and factors that influenced this negotiation process. The analysis shows that the extensive U.S. efforts to get and maintain access to the facility were driven by the necessity to secure transportation corridors to and from Afghanistan. Kyrgyzstan, on the other hand, was primarily interested in financial benefits stemming from having an American base on its territory. The U.S. let local elites enrich themselves in connection with the air base revenues. Kyrgyzstan's internal instability also had a major impact on its stance towards foreign policy matters and the issue of the Manas air base in particular. The U.S. was a stronger player in this asymmetric relationship, but Washington often got into situations where it was being pulled by Kyrgyzstan's domestic developments, which effectively determined mutual relations. The analysis concludes that...

Pitoňáková, Andrea ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Ditrych, Ondřej (referee)
The diploma thesis analyses U.S.-Russian bilateral relationship based on the interpretation of discourses, interviews and speeches of the American and Russian presidents since September 2001 till December 2013. Using Critical Discourse Analysis, and more specifically Membership Categorization Analysis, as a theoretical and methodological basis of the analysis, the thesis categorizes specific periods of the U.S.-Russian bilateral relationship into three categories - positive, neutral and negative. Each category is defined by two basic concepts of the Membership Categorization Analysis - by the collections of positive, neutral and negative categories, which were addressed by the presidents to their counterparts, and by the category-tied predicates related to the particular categories. The final categorization of the U.S.-Russian relations is contrasted with conventional political affairs aiming to highlight the parallels between the categorization changes based on the discourses and the changes in the conventional political context. The diploma thesis offers an alternative view on the U.S.-Russian relations.
